A 61-year-old Lavon man died Sunday, Oct. 11, after his motorcycle collided with a car that pulled into his path at a rural Collin County intersection, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported.

The crash happened around 1:20 a.m. at State Highway 205 and County Road 485, according to a DPS press release published by the Gilmer Mirror. DPS Highway Patrol troopers responded to the two-vehicle collision.

Darryl Cloyd was riding a 2019 Harley-Davidson north on SH-205 when he approached the intersection. A BMW 750 was stopped at the stop sign on CR-485. The BMW's driver pulled into the intersection without yielding the right of way, and Cloyd's motorcycle struck the back left of the BMW, according to DPS.

Cloyd was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The BMW's driver, Darren Dahleiden, 24, of Plano, was taken to a hospital with suspected minor injuries, DPS said.

The investigation is ongoing. DPS's North Texas Region has not released additional details or announced any charges as of Monday, Oct. 12.

WFAA also reported on the crash, attributing the initial press release to the Texas Department of Transportation. The authoritative DPS release identifies the responding agency as DPS Highway Patrol.

Second fatal motorcycle crash in weeks

The collision is the second deadly motorcycle crash in the area in less than three weeks. On Sept. 22, Wylie police and fire crews responded to a crash near South Ballard Avenue and Elm Drive, where 42-year-old Anthony Mills of Wylie died after his motorcycle collided with an SUV, WFAA reported. The SUV driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. That case also remains under investigation.

No charges have been filed in either crash.
