Sachse scored 29 second-half points to pull away from Lakeview Centennial 36-10 on Thursday, Oct. 22, improving to 8-0 on the season.

The Mustangs won at Homer B. Johnson Stadium despite playing without starting quarterback Christian McCaffrey, who missed a second straight game after leaving the Oct. 16 contest against North Garland with an apparent injury, according to Sachse News. McCaffrey came out as a team captain before the game but did not take the field.

His absence showed early. Sachse's offense sputtered through most of the first half, and Lakeview Centennial held a 3-0 lead deep into the second quarter.

Then Austin Taylor found Brendon Quinn for a 51-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left before halftime, giving Sachse a 7-3 edge heading to the locker room.

The Mustangs came out firing after the break. A dominant running game powered 29 second-half points, turning a tight contest into a comfortable victory. Sachse News reported that seniors Trason Haley and Zaivehn Ramsey were among the defenders making plays, with both combining on a tackle of Lakeview Centennial senior quarterback Dakari Jernigan.

The win moves Sachse to 5-0 in District 9-6A, first in the standings according to MaxPreps. The Mustangs have scored 343 points and allowed 127 through eight games.

Now comes the big one.

Sachse travels to Wylie East on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. in a game that will likely determine the district championship. Wylie East entered the week at 6-1 overall and 4-0 in district play, according to its MaxPreps schedule. The Raiders were scheduled to play at South Garland on Friday, Oct. 23, and their updated record was not yet available.

Head coach Marcus Gold is in his sixth season leading the Wylie East program. The Raiders went 10-1 in 2025, finishing undefeated in the regular season before falling to Rockwall-Heath in the bi-district round, according to a Texas HS Football season preview published in July.

McCaffrey's availability for the Oct. 29 showdown has not been announced. Sachse closes the regular season at home against Garland on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 8 p.m.
