The Sachse Historical Society will honor current and former military service members with a ceremony Saturday, Nov. 7, followed by an open house.

The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the society’s museum, 3033 Sixth St., according to its event announcement. The listing does not specify an admission charge or registration requirement.

The gathering takes place four days before Veterans Day, observed Wednesday, Nov. 11. The holiday grew out of Armistice Day, which commemorated the agreement that halted World War I fighting on Nov. 11, 1918. Congress renamed the holiday Veterans Day in 1954 to recognize veterans of all wars, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Historical Society preserves and shares Sachse’s history through its museum collections. Founded in 1989, the organization is led by President Tricia Lindsey.

Outside special events, the museum’s regular hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Visits can also be arranged by appointment.
