Republican Scott K. Field faces Democrat Tom Baker in the Nov. 3, 2026, election for Place 2 on Texas’s 15th Court of Appeals, according to the state’s certified ballot.

Experience

Field joined the court by appointment in September 2024, according to his campaign website. His official judicial biography describes earlier service on the 3rd Court of Appeals and as the inaugural judge of Williamson County’s 480th District Court.

He also practiced appellate and commercial litigation and clerked for Texas Supreme Court Justice Raul Gonzalez. He earned degrees from Texas A&M University and the University of Texas School of Law.

Judicial approach

Field says judges should apply constitutions, statutes and precedent impartially rather than rewrite the law to reach personal or political outcomes. That is his stated philosophy, not a commitment to a particular ruling.

What the court does

The Austin-based court handles statewide civil appeals within its statutory jurisdiction, including specified state-government cases and appeals from Texas Business Courts.

Its rulings can affect residents and businesses involved in those disputes. A justice participates in appellate decisions rather than passing legislation or setting local taxes.

This profile draws on the certified ballot, official court information and Field’s campaign statements.
