Residents of Murphy, Wylie and Sachse have until Friday, Nov. 6, to comment on proposed bicycle routes and improvement priorities through an interactive Texas Department of Transportation survey.
The comment period opened Tuesday, Oct. 13, as part of the Dallas District Bicycle Plan. The plan focuses primarily on roads and highways owned and operated by the state.
The interactive survey asks residents to review three sets of recommendations: the role state roadways should serve for bicycle travel, proposed bicycle tourism routes and priority corridors for improvements.
Participants can select highlighted road segments, review recommendations and submit comments based on their knowledge of local conditions. The tool also allows users to suggest alternative bicycle tourism routes.
The survey takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the detail provided, WFAA reported. TxDOT recommends completing it on a computer rather than a phone.
Feedback will help shape the plan’s final recommendations and guide priorities for future bikeway investments. A full draft is expected to be available for additional public review in 2027, according to WFAA.
Murphy bridge project provides local context
Murphy sought new bids in July for a lighted bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Maxwell Creek on FM 544.
The City Council voted July 21 to rebid the project after all three original bids exceeded the budget, according to the Murphy Monitor.
Public Works Director Donald Reese said the lowest bidder was not prequalified with TxDOT and the other two bidders had not submitted all required agency documentation.
That project is separate from the district bicycle plan. The survey does not commit funding to particular improvements.
How to participate
Residents can submit feedback through the Dallas District Bicycle Plan survey. Comments must be received on or before Nov. 6.
The survey is presented in English and includes instructions for using an automated translation option. Residents needing additional interpretation, translation or disability accommodations should contact TxDOT at 214-535-7261 at least five business days before the deadline.
