A gas line was struck on West Creek Lane in Sachse on Tuesday, July 28, while crews were working on road reconstruction, prompting a temporary road closure and emergency response from Sachse Fire-Rescue.

The city closed West Creek Lane between Willow Creek Court and the Sachse Road roundabout as a precaution while firefighters assessed the scene, according to a City of Sachse Instagram post. The road reopened quickly. Sachse Fire-Rescue completed its safety assessment at approximately 10:45 a.m., and the closure was lifted.

The City of Sachse first alerted residents at 10:14 a.m. through its official X account, urging drivers to use alternate routes while the closure was in effect.

What caused the strike

The gas line was hit as teams were performing road reconstruction on West Creek Lane, according to the city. The city did not identify the contractor or crew responsible for the work. The city's posts did not mention any injuries.

The city has not publicly named the gas utility involved in the incident. Atmos Energy serves the Sachse area as the natural gas provider.

Gas leak safety

Sachse residents who suspect a natural gas leak should leave the area immediately. From a safe distance, call 911 and Atmos Energy's 24-hour emergency line at 866-322-8667, according to Atmos Energy's safety page.

Signs of a gas leak include the smell of rotten eggs or sulfur, a hissing sound near a gas line, or dead or discolored vegetation in an otherwise green area. Atmos Energy will send a technician to investigate at no cost.
