Murphy's City Council convenes Tuesday, Oct. 6, for its first regular meeting since adopting a $67.2 million budget and a higher property tax rate on Sept. 15.

The session begins at 6 p.m. at City Council Chambers, 206 N. Murphy Road. The city had not posted an agenda as of Friday, Oct. 2.

The council on Sept. 15 approved the Fiscal Year 2027 budget and a tax rate of $0.361832 per $100 of taxable value on a 5-2 vote, according to the Murphy Monitor. The rate is four-tenths of a penny higher than the prior year's rate of $0.3575 per $100.

Mayor Scott Bradley, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Ken Oltmann and Council Members Elizabeth Abraham, Debbie Ison and Jené Butler voted in favor. Mayor Pro Tem Scott Smith and Council Member Kevin Kelley voted against both the budget and the tax rate.

The city's website states the new rate will effectively raise taxes for maintenance and operations by 3.5 percent, adding about $4.32 per year on a $100,000 home.

During budget deliberations in August, Bradley compared Murphy's tax burden to neighboring cities. "Murphy is a good deal," the mayor said at the Aug. 18 council meeting, as reported by the Murphy Monitor.

Another item to watch: the council on Sept. 1 voted 7-0 to form a General Obligation Bond Committee, according to meeting minutes. Council Members Kelley and Ison were named to the panel alongside residents Bree Hudson, Brandon Kresky, Michael Padilla, Scott Story and Andrew Jesudas, plus two at-large citizen seats. No bond amount or election date is set.

Residents can watch the Oct. 6 meeting live on the city's streaming page or view archived video afterward.

Agendas and minutes are posted at the city's CivicWeb portal.

The next regular council meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. at City Council Chambers.
