Sachse residents who live in Dallas County will see another line item on their property tax bills debated Tuesday when the Dallas County Commissioners Court holds a public hearing on Parkland Hospital's proposed tax rate for fiscal year 2027.
The hearing begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Commissioners Court Room, 500 Elm Street in Dallas. Commissioners will also hear a presentation on Parkland's FY2027 budget, according to the meeting agenda.
The Parkland Hospital District, formally the Dallas County Hospital District, is a separate taxing entity from Dallas County government. Its rate appears as its own line on property tax statements for homes in the county, including the six Sachse voting precincts (3980 through 3985) that fall within Dallas County's boundaries.
The specific rate Parkland is proposing has not been published in the agenda documents reviewed for this story.
Dallas County already raised its own rate
The Parkland hearing comes one week after commissioners voted 3-2 on Tuesday, Aug. 11, to adopt Dallas County's own FY2027 base tax rate at $0.224650 per $100 of assessed valuation, up from last year's $0.2155. County Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins and Commissioners Dr. Theresa Daniel and Andrew Sommerman voted in favor. Commissioners John Wiley Price and Dr. Elba Garcia opposed.
For a home at the county's median taxable value of $268,056, that base rate means a tax bill of roughly $602, about $25 more than last year.
Commissioners also voted to place an additional 2.4-cent levy on the Nov. 3 ballot to fund homelessness programs, which would bring the total rate to $0.248650 per $100, a 22 percent jump over last year. If voters approve it, that same median homeowner would owe an extra $64 on top of the base increase, The Dallas Morning News reported.
"I believe our residents deserve accountability, and more importantly, our residents deserve a clear path with results, and I honestly don't see this in this proposal," Commissioner Dr. Elba Garcia said at the Aug. 11 meeting, explaining her vote against the homelessness ballot measure.
What Sachse residents should know
Sachse straddles two counties. Homeowners on the Dallas County side pay Dallas County taxes, Parkland Hospital District taxes and Garland ISD taxes, while those on the Collin County side pay into different taxing entities. The Parkland rate, whatever commissioners settle on, will stack on top of the newly adopted Dallas County rate and other levies.
