Sachse homeowners won't see a tax-rate increase under the city's newly adopted budget for fiscal year (FY) 2026-2027.
The Sachse City Council voted unanimously Sept. 8 to set the property tax rate at $0.650416 per $100 of taxable value, according to the city's official Facebook page. That rate falls below the no-new-revenue rate of $0.652103, a threshold Texas law defines as the rate that would generate the same total revenue as the prior year from existing properties.
The bottom line for taxpayers: the city expects to collect roughly flat revenue from properties already on the tax rolls. Any real growth in total collections will come from new construction, not from rising home values.
Median homestead values in Sachse climbed about 4.4% for the 2026 tax year, rising from $437,404 to $456,645, the city said.
Council members approved three of four budget-related items on unanimous recorded votes at the Sept. 8 meeting, Sachse News reported. One item addressed a shortfall in the prior year's budget: Finance Director David Baldwin told the council the FY 2025-2026 budget was about $34,000 short of being balanced, and members approved an ordinance authorizing amendments to close the gap.
The budget process stretched back to spring 2026. Council members got their first look at the preliminary budget June 15 at City Hall.
Mayor Jeff Bickerstaff released a 39-minute podcast episode Oct. 5 through the Sachse Chamber of Commerce, discussing the council's budget decisions and how they affect residents and businesses. The total amount Sachse plans to spend in FY 2026-2027 does not appear in the city's publicly available budget documents.
The next Sachse City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 3815 Sachse Road, Building B. Residents can contact the city at 972-495-1212.
