Heavy equipment is reshaping 12 acres adjacent to Heritage Park at 4408 Hudson Drive, the latest Capital Improvement Plan project in a city that has grown 2.5 times faster than Texas as a whole in recent years.

The expansion, reported by the Sachse Journal on Sunday, Aug. 9, will add playgrounds, a splash park, a covered pavilion, walking trails and scenic views overlooking water features to the park that already anchors the city's event calendar.

Heritage Park sits at the center of The Station, the 134-acre mixed-use development along the President George Bush Turnpike that the Dallas Business Journal described as a $500 million project in October 2025. The park previously received a $10 million renovation that brought an amphitheater, splash pad, steam-engine train and a slide built into a water-tower structure.

The new 12-acre phase goes beyond recreation upgrades. It is part of a broader CIP push that also includes sewer infrastructure to open Sachse's southeast quadrant for future development, grant-funded alley improvements in established neighborhoods and emergency generator replacement at Fire Station No. 1.

The Sachse City Council received a CIP summary from staff at its Monday, Aug. 3 meeting, according to a city Facebook post. Mayor Jeff Bickerstaff presided.

No project cost or completion date for the Heritage Park phase has been publicly announced.

Sachse maintains more than 93 acres of developed park space across 10 parks in its Dallas County and Collin County footprint. The city's median household income sits at $126,000, more than 50% above the DFW average, and its population has reached roughly 31,000, according to the Sachse EDC's 2026 strategy plan.

That plan identifies corridors along PGBT and Highway 78 as the city's top opportunities for mixed-use environments that bring jobs, services and gathering places closer to residents.
