Sachse families who spent the summer hauling kids to Tuesday Baby Bounce and Thursday Pre-K Storytime will need to adjust their routines next week. All weekday Storytime sessions at the Sachse Public Library are on pause for August, and the building at 3815 Sachse Rd., Building C, is shifting toward after-school programming as Garland ISD students head back to class Monday, August 10.

The pause is confirmed. According to the library's July calendar, Baby Bounce, Toddler Storytime, Pre-K Storytime, and Family Storytime are all suspended until Tuesday, September 1.

Once school starts, the Sachse Journal reported, afternoons are expected to fill with middle schoolers working on homework and high schoolers looking for somewhere to land between the final bell and dinner. The library's existing Kids Crafternoon program for first- through sixth-graders, which meets Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m., offers a preview of the after-school format the library plans to expand this fall.

Library Board meets the same night

Residents who want a say in what fall programming looks like have a chance Monday, August 10, at 7 p.m. The Sachse Library Board holds its monthly public meeting at City Council Chambers, 3815-B Sachse Rd. According to the Sachse Journal, the board typically addresses hours, collections, programming budgets, and community priorities. Meetings are open to the public.

Summer reading wraps up

Families still have a few days to pick up Summer Reading Challenge prizes. Participants who logged reading time can collect their rewards through Saturday, August 8, at the library.

The summer program marked a first: Garland ISD formally partnered with the City of Sachse and the library to expand summer reading opportunities, a collaboration that ran through July 31. The library is also recruiting fall volunteers in three roles: Shelvers, Event Helpers, and Craft Helpers. An orientation is scheduled for sometime in August.
