Sachse Police officers will visit neighborhood block parties across the city on Oct. 6 for National Night Out. The free event runs 6 to 9 p.m. and pairs residents with the officers who patrol their streets.

The evening operates on two tracks, as first reported by the Sachse Journal. Neighborhoods that register a gathering with the city will get an officer visit during the three-hour window. Residents who don't have a registered party nearby can head to Heritage Park, 4408 Hudson Drive, for a central community gathering.

But officer visits are not automatic. A block party must be registered with the Sachse Police Department in advance for officers to include it on their route. The City of Sachse is directing residents to cityofsachse.com for registration details and logistics updates.

Setup doesn't need to be elaborate. The Sachse Journal noted that "a few folding chairs and a cooler on the driveway qualifies."

National Night Out is a nationwide effort to strengthen the bond between residents and local law enforcement. In Sachse, the city coordinates the observance, giving residents a choice between a street-level gathering and a larger park event.

Heritage Park also hosts Fall-O-Ween on Oct. 17 and a Sachse Parks and Recreation Department T.R.A.I.N. (Traveling Recreational Activities in Nature) pop-up on Nov. 3.

Three days before National Night Out, the Sachse Police Department holds a free Civilian Response to an Active Shooter Event (C.R.A.S.E.) training at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Sachse Public Safety Building, 3815-D Sachse Road. No registration is required for the training.
