Sachse families looking for one last stretch of summer fun before Garland ISD classes begin Monday, August 10, have two freshly upgraded parks to choose from, both with free splash pads.
Heritage Park at 4408 Hudson Drive features a $10 million renovation that turned the 34-acre site into a multi-generational destination. The overhaul added a splash pad, an amphitheater, a multi-use event lawn, age-specific play zones with climbing ropes, an outdoor dining pavilion, and two features that nod to Sachse's railroad roots: a water-tower slide and a train rail park experience with a track path circling the grounds. The park's three baseball fields and 0.7-mile trail survived the rebuild.
Heritage Park anchors The Station, a 134-acre mixed-use development along the President George Bush Turnpike, according to a Dallas Business Journal feature on Sachse's growth.
A few blocks away, J.K. Sachse Park at 4310 Ranch Road opened its first phase with a free splash pad, brand-new sand volleyball courts, pickleball courts, and a new playground. The splash pad runs daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the Sachse Journal's parks guide published July 23. Additional phases are expected to expand the park further.
The city promoted J.K. Sachse Park's amenities on its official Summer Nights Concert Series page, noting the splash pad, volleyball, pickleball, and playground are all open during events.
What's coming up
The Summer Nights Concert Series wraps up Friday, August 7, at J.K. Sachse Park. Larger Than Life, a boy-band cover band, headlines at 7:30 p.m. with opening act Lola Kinsey Music starting at 7 p.m. Food trucks confirmed include The Baked Bear, So Forking Good BBQ, and The Eggstand. Admission is free, and the Texas Sales Tax Holiday runs the same weekend, August 7 through August 9.
Garland ISD's first day of school follows on Monday, August 10, giving families one final weekend to take advantage of the parks' summer amenities.
Looking further ahead, Heritage Park hosts the Sachse Chamber of Commerce's Fallfest in October, featuring a Touch-a-Truck lineup, live music, food, and vendor booths.
