Sachse residents can now read the city's proposed spending plan for fiscal year 2026-2027, posted 15 days ahead of the August 15 charter deadline.

The City of Sachse published the proposed budget on Friday, July 31. City staff will present the plan to the full City Council on Monday, August 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 3815 Sachse Rd.

The budget document is available online at cityofsachse.com/792/Budget. Physical copies are at the Sachse Public Library and the City Secretary's Office.

How residents can weigh in

Anyone who wants to address the council during the August 3 meeting must submit a Public Comment Card to City Secretary Leah Granger before the session begins. Residents who cannot attend in person can email feedback to [email protected] or watch the meeting live at sachsetx.swagit.com/live.

The August 3 session is a regular council meeting, not a special budget hearing, so the presentation will share the agenda with other city business. The full agenda will be posted on the city's website before Monday.

Budget season so far

Monday's presentation is not the council's first look at spending priorities. Members received a preliminary budget overview at a June 15 council meeting at City Hall. Mayor Jeff Bickerstaff also hosted a "Budget & Burgers" community input session at the Whataburger on Highway 78 on June 25, and the city released a Budget 101 explainer video narrated by Bickerstaff on June 13.

The idea was simple. Get residents talking about city finances before the formal process begins.

The council that will take up the budget includes Mayor Bickerstaff, Mayor Pro Tem Brett Franks, and Councilmembers Michelle Howarth, Frank Millsap, Chance Lindsey, Lindsay Buhler, Matt Prestenberg, and Tim Legh-Page, who was sworn in June 24.

No specific dollar figures, total budget amount, or proposed tax rate have been made public through the city's announcements. Those details should emerge during Monday's staff presentation.

The next step after August 3 is a public hearing and adoption vote, which the council must complete before the new fiscal year begins.
