Sachse residents have a new chance to shape city policy from the inside. The city is recruiting volunteers to fill seats on eight advisory boards and commissions, including animal welfare, economic development, and planning.

The City of Sachse announced the open call Friday, July 31, listing the advisory bodies that need resident members: the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, Economic Development Corporation Board, Library Board, Municipal Development District Board, Parks and Recreation Board, Planning and Zoning Commission, and two Tax Increment Financing Reimbursement Zones.

Each board advises the City Council on its slice of city business. Council members serve as liaisons to each one. As of a June 24 special meeting, those liaisons include Councilmember Prestenberg serving as chairperson of the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, Councilmember Howarth on the EDC Board, Councilmember Millsap on the Library Board, Councilmember Buhler on Parks and Recreation and the Municipal Development District, and Councilmember Lindsey on Planning and Zoning.

The liaison assignments were made after the May 2026 general election and June 2026 runoff, meaning several boards may be working with fresh council partners heading into the new term.

The Planning and Zoning Commission carries particular weight for a growing suburb. It shapes what gets built. Members review site plans, zoning changes, and subdivision plats before they reach the full council for a vote. The Parks and Recreation Board, meanwhile, advises on programming and facilities at spots like J.K. Sachse Park.
