Sachse High School's Lady Mustangs volleyball team swept Rowlett on Friday, Sept. 25, and Lakeview Centennial on Tuesday, Sept. 22, to improve to 5-2 in District 9-6A. The Lady Mustangs sit two games clear of Garland (3-4) for third place.
Sachse also owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over Garland after beating the Lady Owls 3-1 on Sept. 11.
Junior Sarah Naidoo led the way against Rowlett, firing six service aces and recording 19 assists in a 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 home win, according to Sachse News. Ella Smith posted 16 kills to power the offense, and Jacey Gibbs anchored the back row with 16 digs.
The Rowlett match capped a week that started with a lopsided road sweep at Lakeview Centennial. Sachse rolled 25-15, 25-12, 25-3 in the match. No individual stats from the Lakeview Centennial win were available.
At 16-17 overall, head coach Rikki Jones' squad does not have a flashy record. But the Lady Mustangs have won five of seven district matches and carry a two-match winning streak into a stretch that includes both district leaders.
Jones set the tone for the season in August after a non-district win over Mesquite, when Sachse was 4-11.
"The standard is the standard … they want to make the number proud and the school proud and the community proud, like they always have, and they are doing a good job," Jones said at the time.
The district picture above Sachse is clear. Wylie (7-0) leads District 9-6A, with Wylie East (6-1) in second, according to Wylie News. Sachse's third-place standing and tiebreaker over Garland give the Lady Mustangs a cushion heading into the second half of district play.
Sachse hosts Wylie East on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6:30 p.m., then travels to North Garland on Friday, Oct. 2, at 5:30 p.m. A road match at Garland follows on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m.
