Sachse and Wylie East put their unbeaten district records on the line Thursday, Oct. 29, with the winner securing at least a share of the District 9-6A football championship.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Wylie ISD Stadium. Sachse enters 8-0 overall, while Wylie East is 7-1. Both are 5-0 in district play with one regular-season game remaining after Thursday, according to their MaxPreps schedules.

The game will air live on FOX 4 Plus (KDFI 27) and stream on the FOX Local app as the Sonic Game of the Week, Wylie ISD announced.

A key question for Sachse is the availability of quarterback Christian McCaffrey. He left the Oct. 16 win over North Garland with an apparent injury and did not play in the Mustangs’ 36-10 victory over Lakeview Centennial on Oct. 22, Sachse News reported. His status for Thursday has not been confirmed.

Austin Taylor helped Sachse overcome a slow start against Lakeview Centennial, connecting with Brendon Quinn for a 51-yard touchdown seven seconds before halftime. The Mustangs then scored 29 second-half points to remain unbeaten.

Sachse has scored 343 points and allowed 127 this season. Since opening district play with a 44-42 win over Wylie, the Mustangs have won four league games by an average of 35 points, according to MaxPreps.

Wylie East brings a five-game winning streak into the matchup. The Raiders have outscored district opponents 242-54, including a 42-10 victory over South Garland on Oct. 23. Their only loss was a 42-21 defeat to Royse City on Sept. 11, according to MaxPreps.

Running back Victor Ekpo leads the Raiders’ ground game with 559 yards, the Dallas Morning News reported. For Sachse, receiver DJ Doyle has 37 catches for 888 yards and 10 touchdowns, while McCaffrey has thrown 23 touchdown passes.

The teams have traded district championships in recent seasons. Wylie East went 8-0 in district last year and beat Sachse 38-7. Sachse won the 2024 title, finishing one game ahead of the Raiders after a 19-17 victory in their meeting.

Thursday’s winner would move to 6-0 in district and control its opportunity to finish as outright champion. Both teams close the regular season Nov. 5: Wylie East visits Lakeview Centennial at 4 p.m., and Sachse hosts Garland at 8 p.m.
