Wylie will spend $2.4 million on a new aerial fire truck that won't arrive for about three years.

The Wylie City Council voted 6-0 on Sept. 8 to buy a Rosenbauer Commander 109-foot Viper aerial apparatus for Wylie Fire Rescue, The Wylie News reported. One council member was absent. The truck, commonly called a Quint, combines a pump, water tank, aerial ladder, ground ladders and hose on a single chassis.

The base contract price is $2,431,119. Council authorized a total project budget of $2.5 million, leaving roughly $69,000 in contingency funding for changes during manufacturing. The seller is 287 Fire LLC, doing business as DACO, a Rosenbauer dealer with a service center in Haltom City. Delivery is expected around 2029.

A Quint is not new to Wylie's fleet. In January 2022, the City of Wylie said on X that council had approved two Quints and a utility truck to help maintain Wylie Fire Rescue's ISO-1 rating. That rating, the highest Public Protection Classification from the Insurance Services Office, placed Wylie among just 13 Texas departments and 56 nationwide that held the designation at the time, according to a 2019 city press release.

No public information was available on which of Wylie Fire Rescue's four stations will house the new Quint or what apparatus it replaces.
