The Wylie Championship Rodeo won't buck in 2026.

For the first time in its more than 30-year history, the annual rodeo has been canceled after organizers failed to find a temporary venue while Wylie ISD renovates the F.O. Birmingham Agricultural Facility and Rodeo Arena, the event's longtime home.

"Canceling our annual rodeo is an incredibly difficult decision," Wylie Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Tina Stelnicki said in a statement posted July 31. "Over the past several months, the Chamber and the City of Wylie explored multiple alternative locations, but none could provide the space, safety and amenities needed to produce the quality event our community expects."

The Chamber and Wylie ISD have co-produced the rodeo for 20 years, hosting professional competition and family-friendly entertainment at the Birmingham facility. The district began renovations earlier in 2026 to better serve students in its agricultural programs, according to Wylie News. The facility was rededicated in March 2023 during the Wylie FFA Show and Sale Parade of Champions, underscoring its role in student agriculture beyond the annual rodeo.

In response to the construction, the Chamber and the City of Wylie spent several months scouting alternative sites. None met the event's requirements for space, infrastructure and safety while remaining financially feasible.

Stelnicki said the Chamber understands the district's need to upgrade its facilities and looks forward to returning to the newly renovated grounds in 2027. No details about the renovation's scope, cost or timeline have been released by Wylie ISD.

The Chamber thanked sponsors, vendors, volunteers, contestants and the community for their continued support and said it will contact sponsors and vendors in the coming weeks to discuss opportunities for the 2027 rodeo.

A date for the 2027 Wylie Championship Rodeo has not been announced.
