The Wylie East Athletic Booster Club needs volunteers at its Spirit Trailer fundraiser Friday, Aug. 28, at Wylie ISD Stadium, with shifts starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Spirit Trailer is WEABC's largest annual fundraiser. Revenue from the trailer supports sports equipment, travel expenses and scholarships for Wylie East High School athletes across all programs.
WEABC posted a call for helpers on Facebook, urging Raider families to fill remaining slots. The booster club called the shift an easy way for families to log volunteer hours while supporting Wylie East athletics.
Those hours also count toward scholarship eligibility. According to the WEABC scholarship page, the organization awards up to $15,000 in scholarships to graduating Wylie East seniors each year. Student-athletes applying for those scholarships must complete at least five volunteer hours at an approved booster club event, and the Spirit Trailer qualifies.
The eligibility requirements extend to families. Parents or guardians of applicants must hold active WEABC membership for at least two full years, attend a minimum of four meetings per year and accumulate 30 volunteer hours over that span. Friday's trailer shift counts toward that total.
The fundraiser runs alongside Wylie East's first home game of the season. The Raiders host Richardson at 7:30 p.m. after multiple North Texas districts pushed back start times because of extreme heat warnings, as the Dallas Morning News reported.
As we reported Aug. 26, Wylie ISD already delayed Tuesday kickoffs when temperatures topped 100 degrees.
Families interested in volunteering can find details on the WEABC event page. The booster club has not announced additional Spirit Trailer dates for the 2026 football season.
