Wylie East scored on its opening onside kick and rolled to a 62-0 shutout of North Garland on Thursday, Sept. 17. The rout opened District 9-6A play at Williams Stadium in Garland.

The Raiders (3-1, 1-0 district) piled up 38 first-half points and held North Garland scoreless in their largest margin of victory this season. Wylie East's three previous results: a 31-20 win over Richardson, a 44-41 comeback over Texas High and a 42-21 loss to Royse City, according to MaxPreps.

Wylie East set the tone immediately. The Raiders recovered their own onside kick and took it to the end zone in the game's opening moments for a 6-0 lead, The Wylie News reported from the stadium. Before the first quarter ended, the defense added a pick-six to push the margin to 18-0.

A 92-yard rushing touchdown early in the second quarter made it 24-0. Wylie East added two more scores before halftime to carry a 38-0 cushion into the break.

The Raiders kept scoring in the second half. A quick third-quarter touchdown made it 45-0, and Wylie East led 52-0 heading into the fourth. A field goal and a late touchdown produced the 62-0 final.

North Garland, coached by Taurus Rucker, opened the season with a 49-7 loss to Princeton, according to Dallas Morning News scores. Rucker holds a 7-33 record in five seasons leading the program, which went 2-8 last year, per a TexasHSFootball.com preview.

The blowout gives head coach Marcus Gold's squad momentum after the Sept. 11 loss to Royse City snapped a two-game winning streak. Gold is in his sixth season leading Wylie East. He carried a 42-14 record into 2026 after guiding the program to its first undefeated regular season in school history, when the Raiders went 10-1 overall and 8-0 in district before falling to Rockwall-Heath in the bi-district round, according to a Wylie News preseason feature.

After the Raiders' 44-41 comeback over Texas High on Sept. 4, Gold told The Wylie News that the team's resilience was building. "Our kids believed tonight, and that was really awesome to see, that they believed in one another," he said Sept. 5.

Senior safety Kyle Jarvis, named Dave Campbell's Texas Football preseason District 9-6A Defensive MVP, and cornerback Charles Perry, a Stephen F. Austin commit who logged three interceptions last season, anchor a defense that posted its first shutout of 2026 against North Garland.

Wylie East hosts Garland in its next District 9-6A game on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m.
