McMillan Junior High students follow a single path to Wylie High School under Wylie ISD's feeder realignment, which took effect in August. The change reshapes which campus families in the McMillan zone will call home.
The shift is part of a broader rezoning plan the Wylie ISD Board of Trustees approved in January 2025. Under the new boundaries, Cooper and McMillan junior highs feed into Wylie High School. Burnett Junior High and the new Richard Parker Junior High feed into Wylie East High School.
Two new campuses drove the realignment. O.W. Hampton Intermediate, serving grades five and six, and Richard Parker Junior High, serving grades seven and eight, both opened in August on Kreymer Lane, according to The Wylie Times. Both feed into Wylie East.
For McMillan families, the practical result is straightforward. Students in that zone have one junior high and one high school instead of the split-feeder arrangements that previously sent classmates to different campuses.
Wylie East High School, meanwhile, is navigating its own transition. Principal Tiffany Doolan notified the district of her resignation on May 26 after 19 years of service to Wylie ISD, according to a district statement. Doolan had led the campus since 2020, The Wylie Times reported.
Superintendent Dr. Kim Spicer announced Dr. Timothy Benson as Doolan's replacement on June 12. Dr. Benson previously served as principal of Ouida Baley Middle School in Royse City ISD. He started as principal at Wylie East on July 1.
Before Royse City, Dr. Benson held roles as associate principal and assistant principal at Royse City High School and vice principal at Mohawk Elementary in Richardson ISD. He earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Texas Tech University.
"I am honored to join Wylie East High School and become part of such a proud and accomplished community," Dr. Benson said in the district's June 12 announcement.
The district also named Brandon Beaty as Wylie East's new dean of students. Beaty previously served as dean of students at Cooper Junior High, according to a district announcement on June 29.
Wylie ISD serves more than 19,500 students across 23 campuses. Families seeking details on the new attendance zones can visit the district's rezoning page at wylieisd.net.
