Residents who want to run for the Wylie ISD Board of Trustees have until 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, to file. There is no filing fee.

Six candidates have already entered the Nov. 3 election, according to The Wylie News. Three incumbents are running unopposed so far: Jacob Day in Place 6, Stacie Smith in Place 1 and Virdie Montgomery in Place 5.

The contested race is Place 2, where outgoing trustee Mike Williams decided not to seek another term. Three candidates are vying for his open seat: Brett Fagan, Brandon Thomas and Sam Satterwhite. Satterwhite previously served on the Wylie ISD board from 2006 to 2009, according to Sachse News.

Williams spent nearly 30 years with the district as a teacher, coach, campus principal and trustee.

"In all positions, we put all students and staff first in all decisions that were made," Williams said in a statement. "Policy, budget, additional campuses, equity for all no matter what side of town you lived — and as a result, our students, staff and community have enjoyed great success academically, athletically, in the fine arts and career education."

Candidates run for specific numbered places on the seven-member board but represent the district at large. That means all Wylie ISD voters cast ballots in every race on the ballot, regardless of where in the district they live. Candidates are listed by the district in the order their applications were received.

To qualify, a candidate must be at least 18, a registered voter, a Texas resident for at least 12 months and a Wylie ISD resident for at least six months before the filing deadline.

Applications can be filed in person at the Wylie ISD Educational Service Center, 951 S. Ballard Ave., Wylie, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. They can also be faxed to 972-941-6005, attention Krystal Smith.

Early voting runs Oct. 19 through Oct. 30. Election Day is Nov. 3.
