Wylie volleyball begins its Class 6A Division I playoff run against Rockwall-Heath at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Caddo Mills High School.

The bi-district matchup features two 30-win teams. Wylie enters at 34-5, while Rockwall-Heath is 36-8, according to MaxPreps. The site ranks the Pirates No. 10 and the Hawks No. 11 among Texas Conference 6A teams.

Wylie completed its second consecutive undefeated District 9-6A season with a 25-10, 25-6, 25-8 sweep of North Garland on Oct. 23 at the Montgomery Center, Wylie News reported. The Pirates finished district play 14-0 after clinching the outright title against Sachse earlier in October.

Senior Julia Hudgins led Wylie against North Garland with 11 kills. Senior Keelyn Green added nine kills, 10 assists and six digs, while sophomore Ava Williams recorded 10 digs.

The Pirates’ 14-match winning streak ended Oct. 27 with a 3-1 loss to Allen in their final tuneup before the playoffs, according to the team’s schedule.

This postseason also marks the final playoff run for longtime head coach Sherry Olivares, who plans to retire at the end of the school year. Wylie honored her following the North Garland match, according to Wylie News.

Green recently reached 1,000 combined kills and digs, a milestone recognized by the Ahmo Captain athletics booster account.

Friday’s winner advances to face Duncanville in the area round. The Pantherettes improved to 40-4 by sweeping Temple on Oct. 29, according to Temple’s athletics website.

Duncanville ended Wylie’s season in the area round last year, giving the Pirates a chance at a rematch if they get past Rockwall-Heath.
