Wylie's Tibbals Elementary ranks No. 45 among Texas schools

Tibbals Elementary in Wylie scored 99.08 out of 100 and ranked No. 45 among 4,782 Texas elementary schools in the 2027 U.S. News Best K-8 Schools rankings, making it the highest-rated campus in the Murphy, Wylie and Sachse area.

The PK-4 school on Waters Edge Way posted 85% proficiency in both math and reading on state assessments. U.S. News rated Tibbals "well above expectations" in both subjects. The school enrolls 609 students with a 14-to-1 student-teacher ratio.

Sachse's Don Whitt Elementary came in at No. 135 statewide with a 97.2 score. The school's 87% math proficiency rate ranked No. 46 in Texas, and 80% of students hit the proficient mark in reading. Don Whitt serves 728 students in grades PK-4 and is part of Wylie ISD.

In Murphy, Boggess Elementary earned the city's top spot at No. 262 with a 94.54 score. Boggess is part of Plano ISD, not Wylie ISD. Its students scored 75% proficient in math and 78% in reading. Hunt Elementary, also in Murphy and part of Plano ISD, ranked No. 337 with a 92.97 score.

All four local schools outperformed state averages. Across Texas, 44% of elementary students tested proficient in math and 51% in reading, according to U.S. News. The rankings weigh math proficiency, math performance, reading proficiency and reading performance at 25% each. Half the formula measures raw scores; the other half factors in socioeconomic demographics.

Wylie ISD Superintendent Dr. Kim Spicer has pointed to the district's broader track record. In an August statement about the district earning another "A" from the Texas Education Agency, Spicer said, "It represents thousands of people showing up every day and doing their jobs with excellence." Wylie ISD has earned an "A" every year since Texas began issuing letter grades in 2018. Nineteen of the district's 21 rated campuses received an "A" for 2026.
