Wylie volleyball heads into the playoffs with a third consecutive District 9-6A championship after finishing district play 14-0.
The Pirates face Rockwall-Heath in the Class 6A Division I bi-district round at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Caddo Mills High School, according to the Wylie ISD athletics calendar.
Wylie shared the district title in 2024 before winning outright, undefeated championships in 2025 and 2026, Wylie News reported.
The Pirates lost only two sets during this year’s district schedule. They clinched the outright championship Oct. 13 with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-14 road win over Sachse, then completed district play with a 3-0 victory over North Garland on Oct. 23.
Wylie enters the postseason at 34-5 after losing a nondistrict match to Allen 3-1 on Oct. 27, according to MaxPreps. The loss ended a 14-match winning streak.
Senior Julia Hudgins, a Lamar University commit, leads the Pirates’ attack. MaxPreps’ Oct. 26 statistical update listed her with 505 kills and a .344 hitting percentage. She delivered 21 kills while hitting .526 in the title-clinching win over Sachse.
Senior outside hitter and setter Keelyn Green, an Old Dominion pledge, had 590 assists and 293 kills in the same update. Junior setter Berkeley Weidinger added 431 assists.
Senior libero Jolene Bao led the defense with 564 digs, while junior middle hitter Isabella Moreno had a team-high 73 blocks. Sophomore Ava Williams led Wylie with 64 aces and added 342 digs, according to the posted statistics.
The senior group also includes Arizona State commit Paloma Smith, who returned to high school indoor volleyball after focusing on beach volleyball, Wylie News reported in its preseason feature.
Head coach Sherry Olivares is in her 33rd year as a varsity head coach and has more than 750 career wins. She joined Wylie in 2015, according to an October profile.
The Pirates’ closest state-tournament push under Olivares came in 2020, when they reached the regional final before losing to Klein.
Wylie holds District 9-6A’s Division I No. 1 playoff seed. Friday’s match against Rockwall-Heath begins its latest attempt to reach the state tournament.
