The Sachse City Council holds its next regular meeting Monday, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 3815-B Sachse Road, less than two weeks after setting a maximum property tax rate of $0.650416 per $100 valuation for the coming fiscal year.
The city announced the meeting Aug. 15 on X, directing residents to attend in person or watch the livestream at cityofsachse.com/CityCouncilMeeting or on Facebook Live.
The specific agenda had not been posted as of Aug. 16. The city typically publishes agendas before each meeting at its website.
What the tax rate ceiling means
On Aug. 4, the council voted to set $0.650416 per $100 of assessed value as the highest rate it can adopt for FY 2026-27. Under Texas law, that ceiling locks in a cap: the final rate adopted later this fall cannot exceed it, though the council can still lower it.
The final vote on the tax rate is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m., according to a notice on the city's alert center. That meeting is open to the public.
Budget timeline so far
City staff posted the proposed FY 2026-27 budget on July 31 and presented it to the full council on Monday, Aug. 3. The budget document remains available online at cityofsachse.com/792/Budget, with physical copies at the Sachse Public Library and the City Secretary's Office.
Mayor Jeff Bickerstaff hosted a "Budget & Burgers" community input session at the Whataburger on Highway 78 on June 25 as part of the city's outreach effort. The council also includes Mayor Pro Tem Brett Franks and council members Michelle Howarth, Frank Millsap, Lindsay Buhler, Matt Prestenberg and Tim Legh-Page, who was sworn in June 24.
