Wylie ISD earned a 92 from the Texas Education Agency for 2026, extending its streak of 'A' ratings to nine consecutive years.

The district has never scored below an 'A' since Texas adopted the A-F accountability system in 2018, according to a district announcement on Aug. 14. Of Wylie ISD's 21 rated campuses, 19 earned 'A' grades. The remaining two received high 'B' scores of 89 and 88.

The results mark the first full year under Superintendent Kim Spicer, the first woman to lead the district in its nearly 125-year history. The Wylie ISD Board of Trustees unanimously named Spicer to the post on Sept. 23, 2025, and she took office after the required 21-day waiting period, according to the Wylie Times.

"We are incredibly proud to once again be an A-rated district, and I hope we never forget what that 'A' really represents," Spicer said in the Aug. 14 announcement. "It represents thousands of people showing up every day and doing their jobs with excellence."

The TEA's A-F system evaluates districts on student achievement, school progress and closing achievement gaps, using STAAR results, academic growth data, graduation rates and indicators of college, career and military readiness. The 2026 ratings reflect student performance during the 2025-26 school year.

Board President Bill Howard called the results something the entire community can take pride in, crediting teachers, staff, parents and students.

A detailed report on the ratings was presented to the school board at its Monday, Aug. 17 meeting.

Nine campuses make 2025 Texas Honor Roll

Wylie ISD also landed on the 2025 Texas Honor Roll as a Scholar District, a designation the district announced Feb. 27. Only 84 districts statewide earned the distinction, roughly 14.5% of eligible systems.

The Honor Roll, compiled by Educational Results Partnership, recognizes districts that outperform peers in closing achievement gaps and sustaining strong academic outcomes. Wylie ISD's designation covers STAAR performance from 2023 through 2025. The district earned the Scholar category because fewer than 33% of its students are designated as economically disadvantaged.

Nine individual campuses also made the list. Five earned Scholar School status: McMillan Junior High, Bush Elementary, Tibbals Elementary, Watkins Elementary and Whitt Elementary. Four earned Star School status: Birmingham Elementary, Cox Elementary, Groves Elementary and Hartman Elementary.

First female superintendent's background

Spicer rose through the ranks inside Wylie ISD, serving as deputy superintendent starting in 2018 and overseeing curriculum, athletics, fine arts, career and technical education and technology before her appointment as the district's first female superintendent. She spent two decades at Frenship ISD before joining Wylie ISD in 2015.

The district serves roughly 19,400 students across the Wylie, Sachse and Murphy communities. As we reported Sept. 2, Wylie ISD opened two new campuses in August funded by a $136 million bond program. Families can view campus-level TEA scores at TXschools.gov.
